Advising Services

SUMMER 2024 OISA ADVISING SERVICES & OFFICE HOURS

The Office of International Student Affairs (OISA) staff are working our usual hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. EST throughout the 2024 summer. To request an advising consultation, please send an email to oisa@wesleyan.edu and include:

  • Your first and last name as listed on your passport
  • Your WesID
  • Your preferred modality (in-person or virtual)
  • Your availabilty on weekdays between the hours of 8:30am and 5:00pm EST
  • The topic(s) you wish to discuss with a member of our professional staff

Once we receive your email, a member of our staff will respond and schedule your advising consultation. Please also note the following closures and changes for our summer schedule.

Designated Holidays 

OISA and many other Wesleyan offices will be closed on the following dates, which are designated holidays for employees of the University:

Summer Hours 

Many Wesleyan offices, including OISA, will be closed on Fridays from 12:00 p.m. (noon) to 5:00 p.m. EST starting on June 7 and running through August 2. During these weeks, our office hours will be 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST Monday-Thursday and 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. EST on Fridays.  

Remote Work 

OISA’s office location in Fisk Hall Room 105 will be closed on Mondays and Fridays from June 3 through August 9. However, our staff will be working remotely from home to support you on these days. If you need to arrange a virtual appointment with an OISA staff member on a Monday or Friday when our office location is closed, please send an email to oisa@wesleyan.edu with your first and last name as listed on your passport, your WesID (if applicable), and the details of your question(s)/concern(s).

More about OISA's Advising Services

OISA professional staff provide immigration advising services for international students studying at Wesleyan in F-1 and J-1 visa status. We also advise all self-identifying international students on non-immigration aspects of their experience at Wes—such as matters related to cultural adjustment, equity and inclusion, and practical needs like housing—and refer them to campus partners and resources as appropriate. 

We offer the following types of advising services during the academic year: 

Drop-in advising 

Drop-in advising hours are for short consultations that typically last 5-15 minutes. We offer in-person and virtual drop-in advising services each week during the fall and spring semesters. We expect you to review our website before utilizing our drop-in advising services and come prepared with specific questions related to your situation. Drop-in advising services are provided on a first come, first served basis. We appreciate your patience and understanding. 

Appointments 

Advising appointments are longer consultations for complex immigration or other international student matters that typically last 20-30 minutes. OISA professional staff offer appointments by request on Fridays between the hours of 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. EST. To request an appointment, please send an email to oisa@wesleyan.edu with your full name, WesID, details of your situation, availability during the two Friday appointment time slots listed above, and preference for in-person or virtual advising. Please make your appointment request at least 24 hours in advance of your desired consultation time. We expect you to review our website for relevant guidance and come to your appointment prepared with specific questions related to your situation.
